Beneath the Sultan was a Bendahara, a placement similar to that of the vizier, who acted being an advisor towards the Sultan. It was the highest-ranking office that can be held by any popular folks in Malacca. The Bendahara was also liable for ensuring cordial relations with foreign states. Malacca's fifth Bendahara, Tun Perak, excelled in each war
